3,000 year-old prosthetic discovered
November 30, 2020
About two decades ago, archeologists digging at a burial site in the Sheikh’ Abd el-Qurna necropolis west of Luxor, Egypt, found something shocking: A uniquely crafted prosthetic toe fitted to the remains of a woman who was believed to be the daughter of a highly coveted ancient Egyptian priest.
According to reports, the prosthetic toe, also known as the Cairo Toe is estimated to be 3,000 years old and is likely the first practical prosthetic ever made. More research needs to be done, but upon quick inspection, it seems the prosthetic is made of leather and wood.
Premier Prosthetics and Orthotics has been able to improve on this prosthetic a little bit after 3,000 years.
